Bootstrapping is not only about the cash - it's also about the mindset that comes with it.

Raj is the founder of BRX Technology - a platform that is revolutionising service charges for Housing Providers.

Something which has made the news recently is the opacity of service charges to leaseholders and the pains of being able to deal with housing providers and freeholders.

We spoke about:

- My own painful experiences in this space. I think (and hope! 😅) Raj only found this validating from the customer end.

- Working in an industry to become a domain and technical expert. Prior to BRX, Raj spent many years working in digital change and improvement in the housing industry. Having lived through the pains of why the industry has been slow in making change, it has given him an unfair advantage into building a solution around a use case.

- Bootstrapping a business to revenue-generating before raising. Not possible for everyone, but bootstrapping is not only about the cash - it's also about the mindset that comes with it. It keeps prioritisation tight, decisions swift and returns on investment important.

- Raising for the first time. We discussed starting with those closest to you. Whilst downloading email lists to fire off hundreds of cold emails might feel easy, reaching those closer to you can increase your chances of moving faster, albeit a slower start. Raj has found initiating these discussions has opened up conversations he hadn't thought could lead anywhere!
